The Backup Generator is the main objective of Night 4 in Chapter 1.
In Chapter 1
After the blackout caused by the Machine malfunctioning, the Scientist tasks the Players to activate the Backup Generator to restore power to Hemlock Woods. They successfully turn on the Backup Generator at the end of Night 4.

After failing to power up the machine and causing a blackout in Night 3, the Scientist tasks the Players to reboot the power via a backup generator. To do that, the Players have to find 9 Batteries and insert them into the backup generator.

There isn't much information about the Batteries in Chapter 2, except for its appearance.

- The Batteries could've been planned to appear on Night 4 and were meant to be used to power up the Roller Coaster.
